Dr Nyssa Ferguson

Nyssa Ferguson is a Research Officer in the Department of Public Health at La Trobe University. Nyssa’s research focuses on opioid overdose and take-home naloxone, alcohol consumption and drinking cultures, and experiences of seeking care for mental health and alcohol and other drug presentations.

She completed her PhD in the Drugs, Gender and Sexuality program at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, La Trobe University. Her PhD research examined the provision and uptake of take-home naloxone in Victoria, Australia. Nyssa has previously held appointments in the Treatment and Systems team at Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre and at the National Drug Research Institute, Curtin University.

Nyssa is currently researching ‘drinking cultures’ in professional settings, namely, nurses and lawyers. The project examines the cultural and social practices, meanings, and settings that shape drinking practices among members of these groups.
